The U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA), in collaboration with the Trade and Development Bank (TDB), is hosting this event to share knowledge, spark ideas, and catalyze partnerships to enable public private partnerships (PPPs) to support infrastructure projects in Africa.
This event will convene PPP stakeholders from government, industry, financial institutions, impact investors, philanthropies and beyond. Designed to be an active forum for discussing PPP priorities, expectations, and limitations, the program will review the existing landscape, discuss ways to refine and enhance PPP structuring, and explore case studies.
Participants will delve into various financing structures, including donor-funded and blended finance models, during different project life cycle stages, to meet financial, developmental, environmental, and social objectives. Additionally, attendees will exchange insights into financial and political risk mitigation strategies, such as guarantees, credit enhancements, and mechanisms for securing large-scale local currency financing.
In Africa, there is a growing trend of using PPPs as an innovative funding model to complement traditional government funding to finance infrastructure projects. More than half of African governments and multilateral bodies have invested significantly in PPP frameworks, including through laws, policies and dedicated PPP units.
